TOPICAL SOAPBOX #6

TIGHT SECURITY FOR THATCHER FUNERAL

Margaret Thatcher will be remembered for generations to come. This political and historical figure made such an impact on the UK and the world at large that tight security surrounds the location of her funeral.

Many adored her and many luminaries are giving testimony to her legacy and her achievements including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

So why the security?

The authorities fear upheaval from those tens of thousands of Brits who still feel the pain of her industrial relations policies and her destruction of the trade unions that closed mines and ripped 1.5 billion pounds out of the economy and adversely affected entire communities. Perhaps they might demonstrate and disrupt the funeral.

They are also concerned about the Irish, as well as the IRA, who almost succeeded in assassinating her decades ago. But surely even the Irish would understand that goal has been kicked by now.

There's also concern about individuals obsessed with the Iron Lady, but let's face it she never garnered the fanaticism of the current Beliebers (look it up mums and dads) so surely that's covered.

But really if anyone has a right to cause upheaval here then it's the Argentinians, as they never got to put Thatcher on trial for War Crimes during the Falklands War.

Many intelligent and educated minds agree that Thatcher did indeed commit war crimes and was never held accountable. Her order to sink the cruiser  General Belgrano killing hundreds of Argentinians was constantly criticised but never officially brought to justice. It has been said the Belgrano was ordered to stay outside of an exclusion zone and even though it complied with this order she still ordered its sinking.

So here lies the question, with so many reasons to condemn her contribution to the world, should AUD$14,700,000.00 be spent on her funeral? A possible war criminal?

Funerals are for the living, for those that survive the deceased to farewell them, so for those who have a reason to mourn their feelings and their needs should be respected and protected.

I would encourage those with reason to hate this woman to use this time to find it in your own heart to let go of the hate that has weighed you down. What's done is done, and nothing you do will ever hurt the Iron Lady anymore. Only the innocent that remain.
