The new draft of Garden Palace is currently underway and progress is a little slower than I had hoped but it's necessary in order to make it as brilliant as it deserves.
Currently three chapters have been redrafted and are being edited as we speak.
Fans of the original version of the book will be very surprised by some new elements and extra detail that beefs up the characters in the story.
Major Changes already reported are :
* Prologue - completely rewritten
* Location totally changed
* Tour guides and Ushers now Ambassadors
* Introduction of new Tour Manager Quarraalia Teasdale
But the most recent major change is that Chapter Two and Chapter Three have been swapped around.
The reason for this was that in the original Chapter Two, Max (our hero) spent the evening working as an Usher at the Opera, but in the new book Max is completely new to the building and has not yet trained to work in the theatre. So by switching the chapters around we were able to consolidate the tourism side of the Palace and then move the characters on to the theatre. Note that the new role of Ambassador serves all the venues of the Garden Palace as guides, ushers and hosts.
The revised edition is probably 2-4 weeks behind schedule and after initial meetings with Nana Sakata, the book's illustrator, we are definitely due for another catch up to discuss the illustrations for this new version of the book. It is still way too early to expect any sketches from her, particularly as she is awaiting the amendments to spark her imagination.
Hopefully the revision will get some momentum and we get back on track to ensure the book is published in 2013 so watch this space to keep up with the progress.
